GM Design Educational Relations - Facebook

Industrial design students and those students considering a career in the automotive industry should explore the GM Design Educational Relations Facebook page. The automotive industry has many creative design careers for students interested in the creative arts. Open days at Monash University, RMIT University and Swinburne University each year provide opportunities for students and parents to explore industrial design as a career.

Stephen Gray - GM Design

Swinburne University industrial design alumnus Stephen Gray is featured in a recent General Motors video creative profiling careers in the automotive industry. Stephen was a student at Swinburne the year I worked there with Paul Taylor, Lotars Ginters, Mike Englisch, Lyndon Anderson, Stephen Langdon, and Simon Jackson. I recall Stephen's project on speed skates well and also his passion for digital media which was at the time an emerging field for designers.

Stephen graduated from Swinburne in 2002 and began his career in film and animation, moving to GM Holden.  He is now in Detroit with GM and is North American Creative Manager, Design CDI.

Justin Thompson - Buick Lacrosse

The recent trip to China provided my first opportunity to see first hand the Buick Lacrosse designed by Monash University industrial design alumnus Justin Thompson. Justin worked with PATAC in Shanghai on the program and has shared this experience with my industrial design students at RMIT. Justin is currently a Design Manager at the GM Holden studio in Melbourne.
